Reuniting Our Parts

It feels like from the beginning (read high school/ senior school) we are forced to pick science or creativity in our interests, endeavours and professional lives. Or we are quite simply pushed down one pathway or the other. For myself I always had a foot in both camps. Equally fascinated by painting, drawing and other creative pursuits, as by medicinal healing and workings of the human body and mind. Only surpassed by my curiosity of the soul and consciousness. I don't believe there has to be a distinct division between these parts. I studied fine art, history, biology and languages quite the mash up.

In recent times the mystical and the magikal has given way to the scientific or all of the above has been touted heretical depending on who is calling the shots! We are blessed that in this modern information age we can choose to find a place where these parts meet.

Have you struggled to reconcile your interests, passions and parts? In Western traditions we typically view things in a binary way but interestingly look at the yin yang symbol synonymous with eastern philosophies… each half contains a component of the opposite. Acknowledging that the parts are an integrated whole.

How do we integrate ourselves more fully? Our right and the left hemispheres, the heart and the mind, our passions and profession? I believe the answer lies in a combination of lifestyle and wellbeing choices. That we understand that we live in this three dimensional reality where we have to have money and look after our responsibilities such as our families, our pets, our homes, or the desire to have those things. The way of the ‘householder’ as it was dubbed by Paramahansa Yogananda. However as consciousness is the fabric of all things we are in a position to cocreate at all times.

There are so many amazing practices that ground us into our true Self rather that our personality self.

  • Being in nature
  • Surfing
  • Meditation
  • breathwork
  • shamanic healing
  • journaling
  • prayer
  • yoga asanas
  • (ecstatic) dance
  • music
  • chanting/ singing
  • creative pursuits such as writing
  • Plant medicine
  • rituals

The list is endless whatever brings you into flow. They all bring us closer to the divine part of ourselves. There are many, many pathways to the same place of groundedness within divinity.

Have I nailed it? No, not yet. Do I attempt to bring the parts together absolutely every day.  As a mother of three young ones, with a very full and rich life. I have to very consciously build practices into my day.

I am unquestionably multi passionate - constantly vying between the muggle world of the mundane and the mystical and magikal.

Do you feel that tug of war too?

I'm here to say it is possible. We can be a blend. We are designed to be integrated. Yes, currently society leans in to left hemisphere logic and functioning. And yet the most powerful source of energy within us comes from our heart space the electromagnetic field produced by our hearts, not our brains.

So when you carve out those 5 - 20 minutes at the beginning of your day to meditate, listen to affirmations in the shower or stretch and breathe before your children wake.

Or designate time to write or journal or simply take a nap in the middle of the day to recover from a busy schedule, remember that you are in fact bringing those parts of yourself together you are supporting and nourishing yourself as a whole.

Iris, the goddess of the rainbow had a unique position with the gods she was a bridging point between heaven and earth or as I like to imagine it right and left, the yin and yang, masculine and feminine.

I have a daily reminder in my name. Nevertheless, I invite you to find something that reminds you of these parts of yourself and your ability to bring them together.

Your ability to remain fully resourced in yourself, no matter the daily challenges because you feed the soulful elements of you as well as the practical elements of you.

I know there are days where you struggle. I know there are days where you feel that it is impossible to surmount the challenges that you or your family/ loved ones face. But I'm here to remind you you are an expression of the divine and as a capable individual in this human world you will always have the resources at your fingertips to make it happen.

It may take time, but not necessarily. That again - is a construct of our beliefs and of our mind. I implore you to bring as much love as you possibly can into your experience. However that may be -  go hug a pet, go have a cup of hot chocolate. Go share the love with your neighbour, your bestie, your significant other and more importantly, remember to look in the mirror and tell yourself that you're doing a cracking job no matter what.

With love Cecilia x
